Server installation

The following chapter will give you an overview on how to install an maintain your u.RECS®.
When working on the u.RECS® always wear ESD protection equipment.

Compute module installation

When changing a module shut down all modules on the respective carrier and turn the power for the modules off in the managemant GUI. The rest of the system can stay powered.

SMARC module

Before installing a SMARC module, check that the module's own heatspreader is correctly mounted and fastened. Depending on the module, the heat spreader can be fastened with the same screws as the SMARC module itself or with its own screws or clips.

Switch off the u.RECS. Ensure that the SMARC module is correctly aligned: the notch on the contact side of the SMARC module must match the notch in the u.RECS connector. Now carefully insert the module at an upward angle of ~20°. Gently press the SMARC module down until it is parallel to the u.RECS and start tighten the four screws of the SMARC module. Start with the two screws on the opposite side of the connector.

Now connect your peripheral, start the module and enjoy the show :-)

Nvidia Jetson NX module

The Nvidia Jetson NX modules (both the Xavier and Orin modules) use SO-DIMM connectors. Therefore, the installation procedure is pretty much the same as with SO-DIMMs: Align the notch on the Nvidia Jetson NX module with the notch on the slot and insert it at an angle of approximately 45 degrees. Once inserted, apply even pressure with your fingers to push the module down until the retaining clips snap back into place, securing the module. Now insert and fasten the two screws at the opposite side of the module.

You can now connect some some peripherals as cameras etc., start the module and have fun :-)

M.2 card installation

Both M.2 cards on the top side of the u.RECS can be connected to both the SMARC and the Nvidia Jetson NX module. It is configurable via the different COM Bricks. The M.2 card on the down side of the u.RECS is always connected to the Nvidia Jetson NX module.

In general, installing an M.2 card is easy. Just gently insert the card in an angle of approximately 20°, push it down and use the M2 screws to fasten the M.2 card.

Fan replacement

A fan that has damaged blades or any other kind of damage schould be replaced immediately. Fans can only be changed opening the u.RECS chassis. Please power down the whole system and disconnect power to not risk any damage due to shortcuts etc.
